Trout love plastic trout worms: they’re the next best things to real
worms. Many companies manufacturing trout worms, Berkley Powerbait trout
worms and Eagle Claw Nitro Crawlers are top in the market for
manufacturing their own.
Lip Ripperz come in great colors.
Guys like Cliff Phipps, like to make their own trout worms in custom
colors and styles that work for them. Cliff’s are pictured on the bottom
right of the picture.

They’re many ways to fish trout worms. But the most common way is to
just use a split shot size bb to size 5 works great just put one on and
a leader anywhere from 6” to 4 feet of line from the split shot. Match
to hook to the bait is an old saying and it’s true. To big of a hook
will kill the action and have it sink to the bottom. With small trout
worms I like to use size 14 to 10 hooks for trout worms.
Just cast out and retrieve slowly twitching your fishing rod. For best
results just cast out in front of you and test the action of the trout
worm till you get the right action you like. Then copy that action as
you cast out as far as you can to work the trout worm to catch a trout.
The Eagle Claw Nitro Worms, do float the best and keeps the worm in
the strike zone better.
Berkley Powerbait trout worms has a little better action but can only
take a small hook or it will sink to the bottom when working it. (This
is not a bad thing)
Lip Ripperz are just a bigger meal and can take a bigger hook size 8
hook, because of the size of the body of the worm.
A note
Don’t forget a trout attractant it will help. Cave Gravy or Berkley dip.
Eagle Claw Nitro Crawlers and Berkley Powerbait trout worms do have
sent. It’s just and attractant may help get the fish to strike when they
seem to have lockjaw.
