Freshwater trout fishing split shot setup

Natural foods like worms have always been top producers for trout anglers throughout the years. Spilt shot and a short leader with a size 10 hook or smaller tipped with a inflated worm is a very basic method to fish for trout.
A spilt shot and a short leader is the way to go if using ultra light fishing gear or fishing in streams. Small slit shots sizes bb through size 5 is best, any larger the fish may drop the bait when it feels the weight of the of the sinker.

A sliding sinker and a short leader connected to a swivel is another method used to catch trout.
I feel the fish never feels the weight of the sinker using the sliding sinker method. The reason is when the trout mouths the bait and starts swimming with the bait in it's mouth it wont feel the pressure from the weight of the sinker setup resting on the bottom. The chances of catching a trophy trout increases using this method.
